SAS Star Jana Pittman Encourages Pregnant Women To Vaccinate Against Pertussis
Done and dusted #whoopingcough (#pertussis) vaccine. So much talk re vaccines this year it’s important we still get our recommended ones in pregnancy to protect us and our little ones.
I was inspired to post this after reading Catherine Hughes tragedy, she lost her little boy Riley to whooping cough in 2015, just 32 days old. Catherine bravely campaigned for vaccination changes and awareness in the days after his passing and continues to share her story so that others don’t experience what her family did, for more information follow @light_for_riley
Pertussis vaccination is recommended in every #pregnancy between 20-32 weeks. It’s free, safe, and reduces the risk of whooping cough in pregnant mums and their young infants by 90%.
Like in Rileys case, whooping cough can be so serious in young babies – leading to brain damage, pneumonia and even death 😞
Getting vaccinated in pregnancy means mums can pass life-saving antibodies onto their unborn babies through the placenta - an amazing gift of protection for the first months of life.
I am so proud to be able protect my fragile little ones against vaccine-preventable disease. Share your #maternalvaccine stories with me.
